Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alaric Delos Santos said five suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed and two soldiers were wounded following an encounter between government forces and local terrorists in Zamboanga Sibugay early Wednesday morning.

Accordingly, troops from the 44th Infantry Battalion and the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office were conducting security operations when they encountered more or less 10 ASG members in Sitio Limuno, Barangay President Roxas at 2 a.m.

Identities of the slain ASG were not yet available as of press time while wounded soldiers were now in stable condition.

Soldiers were able to recover four high-powered firearms, including M16 and M14 rifles, after the 30-minute firefight.
