The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Friday said at least 81 branches of recruitment agencies were forced to temporarily close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said these manpower agencies were involved in the recruitment of land-based overseas Filipino workers.

Olalia said there were no reports yet about affected manning agencies for seafarers.

The POEA has allowed the affected manpower agencies to withdraw part of their P1-million escrow deposit, but under certain conditions, and the automatic extension of their licenses.
