According to the World Health Organization (WHO), they have not been able to detect a live virus in breast milk, which means the risk of transmission from mother to child has not been established.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said they studied the possible transmission of COVID-19 from mothers to their babies during breastfeeding.

And based on the available evidence, WHO’s advice is that the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh any potential risks of transmission of COVID-19.

“We know that children are at relatively low risk of COVID-19, but are at high risk of numerous other diseases and conditions that breastfeeding prevents,” Tedros added.
