CONGESTION RATE IN JAILS EXCEEDS 437%

The congestion rate in jails reached 437%. However, the Commission on Audit disclosed that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) infrastructure projects amounting to P2.7 million had been delayed.

The ideal capacity of jails is 24,306.

But based on the 2019 Annual Audit Report, the total jail population in the country now stand at 130,667 as of December 31, 2019

The most congested jail is Region 9, with 821%, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with a congestion rate of 645%.
