A cop and two civilians were wounded after alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked a patrol car in Jiabong, Samar on Wednesday morning.

Authorities identified the wounded cop as Patrolman Ace Denver Aharuddin.

The injured civilians boarding a passenger van ahead of the patrol car were identified as Reynaldo Calipes and Elma Geli.

Information from the Police Regional Office VIII stated that personnel of the Pinabacdao Municipal Police Station were ambushed in their patrol vehicle by communist rebels using high-powered firearms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The policemen were providing security to one Dino Dela Peña, who had a scheduled hearing before the Regional Trial Court Branch 28 in Catbalogan City for the crime of arson.
