DOJ TO DIRECT PROSECUTORS TO PRIORITIZE DRUG CASES

The Department of Justice (DOJ) will order all prosecutors investigating drug -related cases to prioritize resolving them so the confiscated drugs could destroyed within the period set by law.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday the department will issue a memorandum circular to the concerned prosecutors to give “top priority” to drug cases, file charges in court as soon as possible, and to move for a court order for the inspection and destruction of the contraband in accordance with the anti-dangerous drugs law.

Guevarra made the statement following President Rodrigo Duterte’s order for the destruction of all confiscated shabu within a week.
