Four persons were killed when the military chopper that they were boarding crashed in Basilan province due to bad weather.

Initial reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo showed that the incident occurred at around 1:00 pm at Barangay Upper Manggas, Lantawam, Basilan.

Accordingly, the aircraft of the Philippine Air Force 505th Search and Rescue Group, with tail number 202, crashed in the said area due to bad weather.

Lantawan Municipal administrator Tahira Ismael said there was a strong gust of wind followed by a heavy downpour before the incident.

The bodies of the four onboard, one of whom female, were recovered from the crash site.

Authorities said the aircraft was bound for Zamboanga from Jolo to evacuate civilian personnel.

The incident was also confirmed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command.
