HARDEN FINES $50K FOR PROTOCOL VIOLATION-NBA
After ruling that he violated the league’s COVID-19 protocols, the NBA fined Houston Rockets star James Harden $50,000 (over P2.4 million) on Wednesday.
The video, published by Black Sports Online, allegedly originated at a Christmas party this week at a strip club in Houston, showed Harden partying maskless at an event.
However, the league’s press release stated that Harden was sanctioned for attending a private, indoor party on Monday.
Meanwhile, Harden posted a statement on Instagram on Wednesday denying that he was at a strip club.
Harden wrote, “One thing after another, I went to show love to my homegirl at her event (not a strip club) because she is becoming a boss and putting her people in position of success and now it’s a problem.”
The NBA said,
“The Rockets do not have the league-required eight available players to proceed with tonight’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.”
Rockets added that their remaining members tested negative for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The game, which was scheduled to be held before a limited number of fans at the Toyota Center in Houston, would have been the season opener for both teams and the postponement underscores how challenging it will be for the league to play its season outside of the bio-secure bubble it used successfully in Orlando, Florida, last season.
