Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said it is highly unlikely to extend modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and nearby provinces unless Congress provides aid to vulnerable sectors.

Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine.

MECQ is effective until August 18.

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to announce new quarantine classifications on August 17.

Duterte earlier said that he could not afford to impose a stricter lockdown because the government no longer has funds.
