DOH undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the agency is still observing the decreasing number of new COVID-19 cases reported in the Philippines, pointing out that a reliable analysis would only be possible if the trend goes on for a week.

Vergeire also underscored that the decrease’s factors must also be looked into to ensure that this is a genuine decrease.

On Thursday, the Philippines recorded 1,987 new infections, the lowest since July 29. These were confirmed through tests done by 91 out of the 113 COVID-19 laboratories in the country.

The day before, another low number of 2,218 new infections were detected by 102 laboratories.
