PH COVID-19 CASES EXCEED 234,000 WITH 2,529 NEW INFECTIONS

The Philippines, on Saturday, reported 2,529 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country, bringing the nationwide tally to 234,570.

Most of the new cases reported came from the National Capital Region with 1,171, followed by Negros Occidental with 197, Laguna with 145, Cavite with 117, and Bulacan with 70.

Eighty-five percent of the newest cases acquired the virus in the past 14 days. A total of 31 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the total recoveries rose to 161,668 after 1,136 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 3,790, with 53 new fatalities. Among the new deaths, 21 occurred on September 18 on August 12 in July, one in June, and one in April.
