PNP SENDS OFF AT LEAST 2,000 COPS FOR LOCALIZATION PROGRAM
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday sent off a total of 2,222 police officers for their deployment in their new regional assignments.
PNP chief Police General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said that through the help of Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) chief Police Brigadier General Rolando Hinanay the localization program would help in checking the strength of cops in regions, provinces, and municipalities.
Cascolan also pointed out that cops who prefer to be assigned in areas other than their places of residence are more likely to abuse their authority. He noted that all cases of cop abuses should be reported.
Cascolan has been pushing for the localization of the cops’ assignments as he believes that this move could boost their morale.
A provision of Section 63 of Republic Act 8551 or the Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998 states that PNP members with the ranks of Patrolman/woman up to Police Executive Master Sergeant will be “assigned to the city and municipality of their recruitment and/or place of residence or if not possible, to the closest municipality, province or regions to his residence.”
