Mayor Arvin Salonga of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, was unhurt in an ambush try on Tuesday, but his bodyguard was injured.

Salonga and his bodyguard were in his car, traversing a bridge being constructed in the municipality of Jaen when unidentified gunmen fired on the vehicle.

Police are still investigating the incident to determine the motive.

The mayor, however, received a previous threat to his life.

In January 2008, Salonga’s secretary Alexander Santiago Silva was shot dead.
