UP MOVES OPENING OF SECOND SEM CLASSES TO MARCH AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND TYPHOONS

In the aftermath of the series of typhoons amid a COVID-19 pandemics, the opening of classes for the second semester in the University of the Philippines (UP) system has been moved to March 1 from January 18.

UP Vice President for Public Affairs Elena Pernia said: “Alam naman natin, nagkaroon ng bagyo, may nahihirapan sa internet access at may mga hindi maka-cope,”

A memorandum issued by UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs stated the decision was reached “after due deliberation on the situation of faculty and students in the wake of the typhoons and in the spirit of balancing divergent positions and interests of faculty and students in the wider context of Philippine higher education.”

With the second semester starting on March 1, 2021, the schedule for reading/wellness break will now be on April 29 to May 5.

Reading/wellness break for split semester schedule, on the other had, was set on March 25 to 27, 2021 and May 20 to 22, 2021.

The last day of classes for second semester will fall on June 11, 2021 while Final Exams will be held from June 14 to 19, 2021.
